Technology

Technology can be very useful, can provide a lot of entertainment, and knowledge. Is difficult to keep up with all the advances in technology. I though that your avatar was cool so I needed to create my own. I was surprise how easy is to use this tool.

Thing #10

I visited all the sites under Discovery Resources. I was amazed about all the available applications. I'll plan to use some of them when working with teens. The one where you can make youre own cover is really fun.

Please see the magazine cover that I created with my little cat, Fiona. The link is below

Finding feeds

I used Google Blog, Topix.net, Technorati, and I also used Yahoo and Google. I used the phrase "children book reviews". I was surprise to see that the feeds search results didn't list reputable sources in their first page results. Maybe I'm been to naive, just let me know. Technorati pulled the national book and literacy alliance, but the best results I found was using Yahoo.com and Google.com and searching feeds AND "children book reviews". In one of them I found Fresh Content.net, which want to explore more since I can see that it will be useful for libraries to use since is free and offer most popular feed, entertaiment headlines, US news headlines, music headlines, financial and World News Headlines. Another site that I found and I'm planning to use is News Press.com, it had a blog about Kids Learn science of Grossology at library.

I think that these tools should offer more options to refine the search.

RSS is very useful since you get a glance of all your interest in minutes. I have MyMSN and MyYahoo but I didn't know that I was using RSS already. It has been realy nice to have news, temperature, etc. in one page.

I will use it at work by having book reviews, nebraska library commision, YALSA and other sites.

I have been using IM for a while. The advantage is that you are carrying a conversation. As in a conversation you receive instant responds and comments. The disadvantage is that you need to online at the same time.

I use IM to communicate with a friend that lives in Spain. Calls are to expensive. Sometimes we used webcamera, and the phone option. My friend likes to use the call option since she doesn't like to type. My friend is in Puerto Rico on vacations and we still can use IM. The other day I was green with envy :) because she had been at the beach.

In a professional setting, I have seen libraries that have staff available to answer questions by using IM. If I was a patron, I'll use it.
